A global convivencia vs 'The Clash of Civilization.' (excerpt from Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's book, 'The Asian Renaissance')
Article Abstract:
Asia's economic progress is part of the 'Asian Renaissance' which is a profound and extensive reawekening of the whole region. This reawakening is comparable with, but not significantly different from, the European Renaissance. This Asian Renaissance is about cultural rebirth and economic empowerment that is founded on traditions and religions. Asia's economic progress can only be sustained by the development of a new social philosophy that revolves around univesal ideals and the principles of social responsibility.

When thinking of Asia, remember Texas
Article Abstract:
The crisis being experienced by the banking industry in Asia is similar to the one that banks in Texas had a few years back. Paul Volcker, former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank, cited the similarities as he pointed out the vulnerability of even countries with strong economic fundamentals and democratic institutions to the volatility of world capital markets. Hence, countries in Asia such as Thailand, Mexico and Indonesia can learn valuable lessons from the Texas experience.
