A round of murder puts cooption in question
Article Abstract:
Israel has undergone renewed conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah in the wake of Shimon Peres' plans for elections in May 1996. One spur to conflict was Israeli intelligence's presumed assassination of Hamas' bomber, the 'Engineer.' This led to a Hamas campaign of revenge, ending a seven-month moratorium on violence as Hamas was negotiating for inclusion into the Palestinian government. Israeli military action against Hezbollah across the Lebanese border has also ended Hezbollah's moratorium on terrorism.

The Middle East I: The PLO-Israeli accord - an Arab critique
Article Abstract:
The peace accord signed in 1993 by PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin is unlikely to lead directly to peace but may establish a willingness to work toward coexistence. Peace will depend on recognizing the Palestinian right to a viable, independent state. The accord is a poor framework for this as it consists largely of Palestinian concessions and is vague, with important omissions.

'In the hands of Allah.' (Yasser Arafat's deteriorating health)
Article Abstract:
Concerns about Yasser Arafat's health has surfaced and many fear it may produce a struggle for power for the Palestinian people. His health has brought fear to all sides involved in the peace process. His departure may result in a war among his lieutenants for power which may cause Israel to recapture the West Bank and Gaza to protect Jewish settlers.
