Billy Eckstine dies at 78; helped to launch Bebop

Billy Eckstine, a black musician who changed American culture, died of a heart attack in a Pittsburgh, PA, hospital on Mar 8, 1993. The first 'crossover' black recording artist, Eckstine helped launch the Bebop musical era. He started performing at the age of 11 and by 1949 was listed as one of M-G-M Records' most popular singers. He was 78 years old at the time of his death.

The ad that ate Tom McMillen
Article Abstract:
Former congressman Tom McMillen had everything going for his reelection bid even as he faced Wayne Gilchrest following the Maryland redistricting. However, Gilchrest's radio advertisement attacking McMillen's penchant for spending taxpayers' money on trips proved to be effective among voters.

A survey was conducted to collect the statistics of hospital death rates in Texas. To conduct the survey a project was designed, the results and analysis derived from the project are presented.
