Article Abstract:

The International Monetary Fund perceived that the ten south East Asian members of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) together with Japanese and Chinese politicians would consider establishing regional structures to minimize, economic and financial shocks for a dynamic and integrated East Asia. The momentum of Chinese growth and direct investments has revived the stagnant hi-tech sectors of north east Asia and the resource based economies of the southeast.

Article Abstract:

The stability of the political economy of Asia is examined, focusing on the economic reform of the Asian economic model. Despite an initial recovery from their 1997-1998 recession, due in part to the economic exploits of Japan and the currency controls issued by Malasia, many feel that a complete economic restructuring is needed to address political corruption in the marketplace.

Regional attention on Jemaah Islamiyah, which had been largely untroubled in developing a dangerous regional terror network stretching from the Thai-Malay border, through the southern Philippines and Indonesia, to sleeper cells in Australia is focused. The incident of the devastating attack on the Marriott hotel in which more than 200 people died is discussed.
