Employee attitudes toward benefit packaging: the job sector dilemma

Article Abstract:

Employee perceptions on benefits do not differ from sector to sector. There are some notable differences in perception however, in terms of merit benefits and convenience benefits between public sector and private sector employees. The differences also may depend on individual needs and the benefit innovations offered. Also, benefits are embraced by people in day labor and those which in lower organizational rungs while in the professional population, benefits are already expected.

Drug testing in the public sector: the role of unions

Article Abstract:

An analysis of drug testing among public employees is presented focusing on the role of labor unions on cases involving drug testing. It is shown that unions exhibited much activity in employee drug testing. Although drug testing has been regulated by law, unions still challenge some aspects of its application. These include the selection process for employees to be tested, good faith bargaining and due process.
