Energy Policies and Biomass Resources in the Asia- Pacific Region
Article Abstract:
Recent petroleum shortages called attention to alternative energy resources such as biomass fuels. Biomass fuels or bioenergy is available from wood, crop wastes, and animal wastes. Developmental countries such as the Asia-Pacific region are prime candidates for the development of this traditional fuel source. However, environmental issues are important considerations and often potential for conflict. The forests need to be protected from deforestation. The land must be used for food as well as providing fuel. Policy issues for this region are identified and developed.
