Hunting for a heritage: post-Soviet Yakutiya
Article Abstract:
Yakutiya, a somewhat autonomous republic with ties to Russia, is seeking political and economic power commensurate with its vast stores of natural resources. The Yakut republic, located in northeastern Siberia, is seeking a higher share of hard-currency profits from its diamond mines. While Yakut policy seems aimed at greater power within the Russian republic, there is some nationalist sentiment. The nationalist issue is complicated by a nativist movement, a large number of Russian and Ukrainian residents, closer ties with Japan and the Yakuti people's Turkic ethnic background.

My American Heritage
Article Abstract:
A book, which was published in 1949, contains a selection of the type of thinking which could prevent the erosion of democracy in the US. The book, 'My American Heritage', contains both prose and poetry which is arranged under three headings: America, childhood and youth. The writers are 18th and 19th century leaders and thinkers, including James Monroe, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Russell Lowell and Theodore Roosevelt. The styles of writing are consistently good, and the authors write with a morality which would address the crisis in modern American society.

The end of the hunting season in history
Article Abstract:
Traditional political instruments such as the army, parties and the status quo did not play pivotal roles in the key events of the late '80s. These have even been proved ineffective. The fact is that intellectual dimensions - science, technology and information - are now the sources of power and wealth, no longer on territory, natural resources, location and population.
