Incentives, inequality and publicity
Article Abstract:
Critics of egalitarianism frequently claim that pursuit of economic equality must be balanced by other factors because its crushing effects on incentives jeopardize efficiency. The most challenging version of their argument appeals to philosopher John Rawls' difference principle which holds that departures from equality are just if necessary to benefit the least advantaged maximally. Within this context, the latest critique in author G.A. Cohen's campaign against the Rawlsian defense of inequality-generating incentives is analyzed.

Maintaining a strong U.S. economy
Article Abstract:
American business is more affected by global competition than ever before and will have to become more responsive to this competition in order to survive. A flatter business organization structure in which all levels of employees work together is the latest trend, giving those lucky enough not to be laid off the impression that their jobs are vital to the business's success. This horizontal structure should enable American business to be more responsive to consumer needs and focus on competitive strengths.
