The Joint Chiefs of Staff rejected START III reductions below 2,000-2,500 warheads as a Senate Armed Services hearing. The stance cuts US bargaining ability on modifying the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty with Russia.

Independent panel urges increased threat reduction efforts in Russia

Article Abstract:

The bipartisan 'Russia Task Force', an independent panel set up by the Energy Department, is calling for the new Bush administration to step up its US threat reduction efforts in Russia. Otherwise there is a significant risk of failure.
