Liberalizing trade in services

Article Abstract:

The policies pursued in the next round of summits by the World Trade Organization will have an effect on the services industry, and the author presents the case that restrictions on the liberalization of trade markets may have seroius effects on the economy because services account for a large percentage of US exports, gross domestic product, employment and trade surplus. Services that should be considered in the next round include health, energy, air cargo, telecommunications, law and finance.

Free trade from the bottom up

Article Abstract:

The process of international trade negotiations in the liberalization of free markets and dismantling of trade barriers is discussed. This article states that a country benefits economically from unilaterally opening its markets and that the US should pursue such liberalization of its trade barriers to benefit Americans, even if the freedom and liberties of people in other countries is restricted or reduced.

Prospects for new WTO trade negotiations

Article Abstract:

The author argues his case that the 1999 World Trade Organization's (WTO) Seattle summit was largely unsuccessful due to disagreements in leadership and policy practice by the member nations. In order to lift barriers on international trade negotiations, the author posits that the WTO needs to rework its free trade agenda to accommodate the needs of both developed and developing countries.
