NPT review conference opens

Article Abstract:

The Non-Proliferation Treaty conference will consider the impact of the 1995 treaty, the inclusion of more Middle East nations within the treaty and the progress of disarmament. The meeting is being held at the United Nations in New York and will last for four weeks during Apr and May 2000.

Iraq again rejects 1284 while pressures build on sanctions

Article Abstract:

Iraq repeated its rejection of the United Nations Monitoring, Inspection and Verification Commission although an Iraqi official addressed the possibility of compromise. Two high-level UN officials resigned from its humanitarian program over continuing sanctions against Iraq.
