Economic liberalization has brought many emerging markets but investments in the region are always tempered with fears about the stability of the region. Speaker after speaker at the Chatham House conference emphasized that if the human rights record of the country is good there should be no fears about the stability as a risk assessment checklist provides guidelines to help investors.

Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Qadhafi's persistence seems to have finally paid off as the economic sanctions against his country have finally been eased and hordes of Western company representatives are descending in Tripoli, the capital. The presence of dormant radical Islamic militant groups is a cause for concern in a country that has been the center of liberal Islamism.

The world committee has failed developing countries by not tackling the problems that plague the commodity sector. UN Conference on Trade and Development's (UNCTADEs) recent report stated that clear recognition of facts that are not provided by the market is needed and the necessary solutions to instability and secular decline in the commodity prices are to be provided.
