Russia reduces CFE-limited weapons in Georgia

Russia moved closer to Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty compliance by reducing weaponry and closing two bases in neighboring Georgia, which is designated a European flank zone. Russia signed the treaty in 1996.

Russia pledges CFE compliance; U.S. stresses need for action

Article Abstract:

President Vladimir Putin reiterated his promise to abide by the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty once the Chechnya conflict ends. The US responded that Russia could prove its intentions by accelerating its withdrawals from Moldova and Georgia.

Russia stands by its decision to sell arms to Iran

Article Abstract:

Russia informed the US in Dec 2000 of its withdrawal from a 1995 pledge not to sell weapons to Iran. Russian President Vladimir Putin also moved to take more personal control over arms export policy.
