Keeny Jr. (Arms Control Assoc); Alan Romberg (Stimson Center); Joel Wit (Brookings Inst.); and Joseph Cirincione (Carnegie Endowment) discuss the recent troubled US-North Korean relations, and how the historic upcoming meeting of Sec. of State Albright and Chairman Kim Jong Il might be cause for arms control and nonproliferation optimism.

Advancing the arms control agenda: pitfalls and possibilities

Article Abstract:

The Arms Control Assn (ACA) held a panel discussion on Feb 18, 1998 regarding arms control issues confronting Pres Bill Clinton's administration and the US Senate. The discussion was attended by the president and executive of ACA, Center for Political and Strategic Studies Chmn Susan Eisenhower, Council for Livable World Pres and Executive Dir John Isaacs and ACA Deputy Dir Jack Mendelsohn. Four areas of concern were identified including oppositions to START II in the Russian Duma, oppositions on the Anti-Ballistic Missiles Treaty in the US Senate.
