Sunset reviews of antidumping and countervailing duty measures: US implementation of Uruguay Round commitments
Article Abstract:
The US sunset provisions and their compatibility with Uruguay Round commitments were reviewed. The Antidumping and Subsidies Agreements allow the members of the GATT to conduct sunset reviews of antidumping and countervailing duty measures. The agreements require the members to end measures after five years unless the authorities conducted a sunset review to determine if the termination of the measure would result in continuation or recurrence of dumping or subsidization. The Dept of Commerce and the International Trade Commission have been tasked to conduct simultaneous sunset reviews to determine their compatibility with Uruguay Round commitments.

Negotiating Chile's accession to the North American Free Trade Agreement
Article Abstract:
Chile's accession to NAFTA will require conforming Chilean antidumping and countervailing duty procedures to NAFTA provisions. Chile uses surtaxes and minimum customs values instead of antidumping laws, and has utilized its countervailing duty laws sparingly since 1985. Chile will benefit from NAFTA's dispute settlement process, although the country will have to change its investigation procedures and trade remedy statutes to comply with NAFTA provisions.
