The adoxic adventures of John Henry in the 21st century

Article Abstract:

A major question facing African Americans individually and variably collected is how to make use of technoscience to guarantee a more meaningful and humane life spaces for themselves. Three promising yet only partial solutions such as technoeconocentrism, Afrofuturism and technological substantivism are explored and although individually not one of this trio is broad enough to guarantee an African American technopolitics, it is contended that a combination of selected strengths from each might help.

Hurricane Katrina: The black nation's 9/11! A strategic perspective for self- determination

Article Abstract:

The amount of destruction and human suffering caused by Hurricane Katrina was due to the profit-driven system of capitalist exploitation reinforced by the national oppression of African Americans in the US South, where majority of the African Americans lived. The efforts taken for reconstruction in the Gulf Coast should be seen as a part of the struggle for African American self-determination.

Agency, race and uthopia

The agency attributed to blacks is demonstrated and the significance of utopian imagination for African Americans is discussed. The comparison of George Schuyler's Black Empire with Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and Edward Bellamy's classic Looking Backward is explained.
