The experience of African American women in the academic workplace: doubly disadvantaged or meeting the challenge of greater opportunity

Article Abstract:

African American women have traditionally been disadvantaged in terms of gender and race. This has led to equal employment initiatives geared specifically for their benefit, making them the highest priority for preferential treatment. Whether this is merited and effective for African American women professors in the academe, or whether this has led to reverse discrimination is analyzed using stress, productivity and job satisfaction data on Washington State University faculty. The results indicate that African American women in the faculty are not unduly disadvantaged.
