The false pretense of NATO expansion

Article Abstract:

NATO's planned expansion calls for a thorough evaluation of the US military's capability to effectively defend the Eastern European countries that it has accepted into its fold. The US armed forces has already been involved in a number of wars and is under severe economic pressure that may result in significant reductions in military capability. NATO should ask itself whether it could stand up to a revived nationalist Russia if ever Russia decides to challenge the US and its Western allies.

Bigger NATO, bigger sales

Article Abstract:

The admission of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary as new NATO members seems to have fueled competition between fighter jet suppliers in the United States, Sweden, Great Britain, and Russia. These companies have heavily lobbied these countries for their business by offering attractive financing packages, cost offsets, and promises of placing plants in their countries. These countries could also choose not to purchase new fighter jets or to refurbish their old ones.
