The paradox of thrift: RIP
Article Abstract:
The Keynesian doctrine of the paradox of thrift, which disparages saving and justifies wasteful spending and massive deficits, has been removed from the 14th edition of Paul A. Samuelson's 'Economics.' The edition has an extensive discussion on the low U.S. saving rate, and compares it with the higher saving rates in Japan and Germany. The paradox of thrift has taken Keynesian economies to its illogical conclusion by encouraging the government spending during recession, but stopping short of such an utilitarian view on family finance.

Hydraulic and fishing installations at Tel Tanninim
Article Abstract:
The unearthing of hydraulic and fishing-related structures in Tel Tanninim, Israel, provided clues related to sea water and fresh-water fishing industries in the area during the Byzantine and Early Umayyad eras. Documents from the Crusades reveal that area had been called Turris Salinarum or Saltworks Tower and may suggest that sea salt-making was another flourishing industry. Ceramic water pipelines were used to supply fresh water to a reservoir, a fountain and a fishpond.

A discreet ornamentalism
Article Abstract:
The new trend in home ornaments and furniture combines contemporary ideas and classical concepts. This modern hybrid uses minimalism to compensate for the overwrought designs of the 1980s. There is still the connection to the past but customized details allow a sense of self for the owner.
