United Germany: political system under challenge
Article Abstract:
The reunification of the two German states has not in anyway altered the political system, constitution and the basic structure of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). Nothing from the old Germany Democratic Republic (GDR) system was integrated into the FRG. The reunification process is far from complete since the gap in the living standards between the former GDR and the former FRG is growing. While the East Germans are dissatisfied by the pace of growth, the West Germans resent the high tax burden. The suddenness of the reunification has posed a challenge to the political system.

The evolving German economy: unification, the social market, European and global integration
Article Abstract:
The 1990-91 German economic boom was short lived and was followed by a down slide in 1992-93. This was due to a misguided wage policy, retrenchment, and an influx of immigrants along with other structural problems. This led to a huge budgetary deficit, cost explosion, increasing unemployment, lower spendings on R&D and innovation, and a loss of international markets for German goods. However, the conditions are improving due to it's economic growth due to a resurgence in the global economy. Germany needs to make several structural changes to be able to sustain the economic growth.

Germany between East and West
Article Abstract:
The East and West aspect of Germany is perceived differently by the pre- and the post-war generations as the country faces a cleavage between its domestic East and West factor and the European manifestation. Germany's location at the center of Europe has proved to be more of a problem than an advantage. Although the formal process of German reunification was completed within one year of its initiation, its growing together as one nation is still incomplete. West Germans have a disparaging feeling towards the east while Eastern Germans have a feeling of personal defeat.
