A psychometric study of adolescent risk perception

Article Abstract:

Adolescents who engaged in a risky activity perceived the risks to be more controllable, smaller and more well known than did students not involved in that activity, according to a study of 41 high-school students. The students were asked to rate the perceived risks and benefits of activities ranging from loud music and caffeine to sex, drugs and risky driving. Adolescents involved in one type of risky behaviour were more likely to be involved in another. Many of the more dangerous activities were admired as much as more socially accepted risky activities.

Knowledge, attitudes and behaviours related to HIV and AIDS among Chinese adolescents in Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

More than 80% of 1259 Chinese adolescents surveyed in Hong Kong had never or rarely discussed Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) or Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) with parents or teachers, but few of those surveyed reported participating in associated at-risk activities. Both female and male adolescents surveyed were misinformed about AIDS and HIV in aspects such as vulnerability and transmission. Most AIDS and HIV information was obtained via the media.
