Bone density patterns in women with anorexia nervosa
Article Abstract:
Bone mineral density (BMD) patterns in adult women suffering from anorexia nervosa are examined. The effects of food, body weight, and composition on bone mineral density are also evaluated. Out of 20 subjects, 17 have substandard BMD and a majority of substandard BMD subjects have preferential trabecular versus cortical bone loss. In such subjects, fracture of the appendicular region occurs despite the restoration of weight. Anorexic women run a risk of compromising the skeletal integrity as a whole and suffer some form of bone loss permanently.

Dissonance thin-ideal and didactic healthy behavior eating disorder prevention programs: Results from a controlled trial
Article Abstract:
Negative body image strongly correlates with low self-esteem, disturbed eating behavior, and eating disorders, especially among college-age women in the United States. It was found that dissonance thin-ideal (DTI) and healthy behavior (HB) participants in a study experienced greater improvement in body image, thin-ideal internalization, and eating behaviors as compared with wait-list control participants, from baseline to follow-up.
