Children's Ideas about the Bank and Shop Profit

Article Abstract:

Mr. Ng extends a previous study on the development of children's ideas on bank and shop profit. Chinese children in Hong Kong are given a questionnaire. The purpose of the study is to separate the stages of development of understanding. Also, the effects of cognitive contrasts and conflicts are tested in sparking a jump in understanding: the 'A-ha' experience. Intra-individual cognitive conflict has a significant effect on the understanding of bank profit. Contrasts have little effect on understanding.

The seductions of determinism in development theory: Foucault's functionalism

Article Abstract:

In 1985 David Booth, who had argued that development theory, mostly Marxist but also modernization theory, was out of touch with reality, incapable of generating viable policy and riven with metatheoretical errors, recommended a return to empirical case studies. Twenty years later, the dominance of Marxist and neo-Marxist theories is being replaced by an equally pervasive hegemony of Foucauldian discourse, the aspects of which are discussed by a study.

The fall of Lima Site 85

Article Abstract:

An account of fall of Lima Site 85 will help clear all the questions and doubts that persist about what happened that night on the mountaintop almost 40 years after the attack. The assumption that the enemy could not climb the cliffs as the Lima Site 85 and the secret Air Force radar facility sat atop, one of the highest mountains was key element that led to the fall of the Lima Site 85.D
