Client and consultant management problem-solving values
Article Abstract:
A random survey of 28 consultants and 52 clients that employ consultants suggests that consultants may see themselves as more important to the client than the clients perceive them to be. The survey results were compared with results from a similar, 1979 study. Confidence in management, stimulation, and human versus systems orientation factors were revealed to be significant. Consultants were more likely than clients to favor competition and believe that people benefit from prodding. A possible egocentric bias among consultants may alienate them from some clients. Disagreement among consultants and clients on stimulation and managerial self-confidence may demonstrate that consultants are actively performing the jobs for which they are hired.

Can a mass-media campaign modify tobacco smoking in a large organization? Evaluation of the Great American Smokeout in an urban hospital
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the impact of the Great American Smokeout on smoking. The study was based on the campaign's application in an urban hospital. Unobtrusive observations were made and expired alveolar carbon monoxide levels were observed. Results show that mass media campaigns temporarily reduce smoking. However, better strategies are needed to create a more permanent effect.
