Coercive sexuality and dominance

Article Abstract:

A phylogenetic background on the sexual behaviour of animals and humans is presented. Reptile sexuality is characterized by dominance-submission wherein males display and females submit through submissive behaviour. Females can refuse depending on their readiness and the quality of the male's display, hence, there is no coercion. Individualized brood care evolved from vertebrates and mammals which later on translated into individual bonding ability in humans. During courtship, humans display reptilian heritage through competitive behaviour. However, rape is still classified as deviant sexual behaviour and adaptive only as a form of male dominance and aggression.

The evolutionary psychology of men's coercive sexuality

Article Abstract:

It is posited that human behavior originates in psychological adaptation, particularly those displayed by human ancestry. Male sexual behaviour may be a direct result of a rape-specific psychological adaptation or it could be behavior arising from but not directly related to rape. Specific environmental cues are studied to shed light on these hypotheses. Six behavioral predictions are examined in relation to the rape-specific hypothesis but findings also show a correlation with the side-effect hypothesis. Evidence show that fitness of ancestral males increased with forced matings.

The study of men's coercive sexuality: what course should it take?

Article Abstract:

Commentaries to the target study on rape are answered. Some undisputable facts emerge. Rape behavior is a product of psychological adaptation since behavior and environmental information processing systems are products of human psychological structure and adaptation. Selectivity guides the evolution of life and behavioral adaptations are its products. It is an open question whether or not rape is heritable since behavioral and non-behavioral traits are caused by gene-environment interaction during development.
