Collaboration between psychologists and family physicians: implementing the biopsychosocial model

Article Abstract:

A new shift in the focus of primary health care to psychosocial issues of patients has opened new vistas of cooperation between psychologists and medical professionals in caring for patients and their families. Effective communication and overall improvements in interaction between medical professionals and psychologists has the potential to enhance the nature of patient care in dealing with difficult medical problems.

Psychological consultation with primary care physicians: obstacles and opportunities in the medical setting

Article Abstract:

Enhanced cooperation between psychologists and primary care physicians is much-needed in providing effective primary health care. Unless psychologists are able to expand their role as health providers, collaboration between primary health care professionals and psychologists will limited and constrain the nature of patient care.

Adapting to health care reform and managed care: three strategies for survival and growth

Article Abstract:

A tripartite model addresses the need for better health and managed care by exposing clinicians to better professional training and education. The empowerment of practitioners in decision making will provide for organized psychology to be a significant influence in the new health care system.
