Commentary on Fenton

Article Abstract:

The process of Mandy's treatment is not a common occurrence although her case as a rape and trauma victim is. During the treatment, both Dr. Fenton and Mandy struggled against the feelings of transference and countertransference as evidenced by Mandy's outbursts. However, despite such confusion, Dr. Fenton's therapeutic approach remained open, honest and correct. He maintained an open mind about the treatment and tried to make Mandy accept her sexual abuse experiences simply as memories that can be easily considered as one of life's painful experiences. This case should encourage further research on understanding the mechanisms of post traumatic stress disorders.

Commentary on Fenton

Article Abstract:

Mandy's case is just one of the thousands of sexual abuse and incest cases in the US. However, her situation along with other sexual abuse cases share the same principal psychopathology which is rooted in the alterations in the developmental processes of each individual. Such developmental alterations include disturbances in self, affect and socialization. The resolution of Mandy's conflict was thus, brought about by the focus on developmental tasks which have been seriously impaired as a result of the trauma.

Impact of child sexual abuse on females: toward a developmental, psychobiological integration

Article Abstract:

The long-term impact of child sexual abuse on specific psychological and biological developmental processes of female victims is analyzed. Focus is on puberty because this stage is regarded as an extremely critical transitional period that has the likelihood of being more difficult for sexually abused than non-abused girls. Some of the adult outcomes of sexualchild abuse are also explored.
