Commentary

Article Abstract:

Both Gil Noam and Dante Cicchetti articles on developmental psychology failed to consider the concept that internal working representations of self are developed in regard to interpersonal communication with attachment figures. Cicchetti did not consider that even young children may view parental rejection or maltreatment as a depreciation of their values rather than just stressors. Noam failed to consider that encapsulations are linked with themata that have not been discussed with attachment figures.

Commentary

Article Abstract:

Gil Noam's clinical analysis of developmental psychology is faulty because even when stage/age asynchrony is protective, it does not attain equilibrium in Piagetian terms, and therefore requires for the developmental dissolution of the arrest that gave temporary relief against the higher-stage risk for the vulnerable patient. Dante Cicchetti is not clear on how the consideration of biography in normative developmental psychology can resolve the conflict between structure and function.
