Article Abstract:

The limitations of ontogenetic theory addressed in Michael R. Levenson and Cheryl A. Crumpler's 'Three Models of Adult Development' represent a rare comprehension of the theory. However, the treatment of both sociogenetic and liberative models are not easily appreciated. Moreover, in proposing a liberative model of adult psychological development, Levenson and Crumpler should have maximized the importance of the intertwined social forces and human activity. Comprehension and expansion of human power over reproduction of self and social relations, for one, should have been emphasized.

Commentary

Article Abstract:

The articles 'The narrative approach to moral development: from the epistemic subject to dialogical selves,' by J.M. Day and M. Tappan, and 'Reflections on narrative approaches to moral development,' by O. Lourenco, are examined and compared. It is argued that both the cognitive and the narrative approaches to the study of moral development have their respective strengths and weaknesses and, thus, combining the two methods may prove to be the best alternative.

Commentary

Article Abstract:

The articles 'The narrative approach to moral development: from the epistemic subject to dialogical selves,' by J.M. Day and M. Tappan, and 'Reflections on the narrative approaches to moral development,' by O. Lourenco, illustrate the debate between the cognitive approach and the narrative alternative to the study of moral development. The narrative approach outlined by Day and Tappan is examined and evaluated in relation to the cognitive method.
