Compensation seeking, comorbidity, and apparent exaggeration of PTSD symptoms among Vietnam combat veterans

Article Abstract:

Vietnam combat veterans who tend to exaggerate their psychological symptoms show an increased comorbidity as measured by the F-K index. However, they do not display an increased need to seek compensation. Fifty-four of the 145 veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder were identified as exaggerators. These subjects obtained higher scores than the nonexaggerators on self-report measures of psychological symptoms. Affective disorder was more likely among the apparent exaggerators.

Article Abstract:

The development of an abbreviated form of the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS) with non-parametric item response theory was evaluated by conducting five studies. Results showed that the item characteristics curves behaved in a monotonically increasing function for all items of the brief 4-item version of the DAS.
