Discussion of papers by Drs. Fromm, Muller, Piers, and Tillman
Article Abstract:
Opening a therapy session to a third party consultant is a radical approach to traditional psychotherapy, but offers a successful way to circumvent harmful impasses and negative countertransference. When consultants individually meet with patients and therapists, they discuss the therapeutic relationship in a way that tries to identify the reason for the communication problems. If an impasse is caught in time, it spares the patient feelings of distress and isolation and minimizes the therapist's sense of guilt.

Consultation from the postition of the third
Article Abstract:
An impasse in psychotherapy is characterized by the inability of the therapist and patient to communicate in a meaningful way. This situation requires consultation from a third party which can act from the position of Other, providing mutual recognition for patient and therapist and elucidating the transference-countertransference dynamics. The intervention of a consultant reinstates a triadic framework which contexualizes the conflict and allows the participants to reconcile directly.

The vision of the self in dialogue
Article Abstract:
Psychotherapists need to understand the true nature of dialogue in order to effectively discharge their functions as healers. Martin Buber's philosophy of dialogue can provide a deeper understanding of this process. Based largely on his philosophy, 'dialogical psychotherapy' therapy focuses on the meeting between the therapist and the client or his family. The quality of the dialogue between therapist and patient is thus a prime determinant of the effectivity of the healing process.
