Do films about mentally disturbed characters promote ineffective coping in vulnerable youth?
Article Abstract:
The support provided by exposing suicidal youth to films featuring suicides or mentally disturbed persons, to lack of belief on the effectiveness of professional mental health treatment is examined. Increasing exposure to films with mentally disturbed characters is related to belief in the treatment inefficacy of mental disorders, and such exposures have long-term effects on depressed and suicidal youth.
