Experiments on rating the utility of consumer goods: evidence supporting microeconomic theory

Article Abstract:

Four experiments where the subjects rated the utility of consumer goods were used to study predictions of microeconomic theory. The first experiment showed that marginal utility was dependent on the price and not on the frequency of consumption of the goods. Subjects independently rated total and marginal utility in the second experiment. Goods with higher demand elasticity were valued less in experiment three. There was a positive correlation between consumer's surplus and average value of goods in the fourth experiment.

Rating the values of government and market supplied goods

Article Abstract:

People prefer government goods more compared to market supplied goods. The people's view on government goods is based on a simple good-bad evaluation while their view on market goods, which they must pay for themselves, is based on a rather economically complicated manner. The people's general preference for government over market goods as related with their predisposition for regulation of the market to distribute scarce resources.
