Fatty acids, diacylglycerol, Ins(1,4,5)P3 receptors and Ca2+ influx
Article Abstract:
Drosophila's transient receptor potential (TRP) calcium channels in its native environment and in heterologous expression systems. Hence, it was chosen to be the subject of an experimental study aiming to to determine the mechanism of gating and regulation by store depletion of TRP calcium channels. Observations indicate that TRP channels are regulated by lipid mediators and the functional interaction of the human Trp clone, hTrp3m with Ins(1,4,5)p3 receptors.

Excitotoxicity and the NMDA receptor - still lethal after eight years
Article Abstract:
Glutamate excitotoxicity and corresponding NMDA receptor overactivation remains an interesting topic of research eight years after its initial correlation in 1987. Since then, the processes of free-radical production, phospholipase activation and mitochondrial dysfunction have been related to downstream effects of glutamate and NMDA on neurons. In addition, nitric oxide is theorized to be a neurotoxic intermediate.
