Feasibility of computerized psychological testing with psychiatric outpatients

Article Abstract:

A study investigated the possibility of using computerized psychological testing by employing the method to evaluate a sample of 452 psychiatric outpatients. Results indicate the method is most successful with patients who are educated, have some experience with computers and have a positive attitude toward computers. Computerized assessment cannot be used with all patients, and a preliminary interview may be helpful in familiarizing some patients with its methodology.

Diagnostic utility of the MCMI-I and MCMI-II with psychiatric outpatients

Article Abstract:

A study administered the MCMI-I or the MCMI-II to two samples of psychiatric patients in outpatient treatment and compared the results to DSM-III-R diagnoses. Results indicate that diagnoses from both versions of the MCMI understated the rate of psychotic disorders and overstated the rate of nonpsychotic and personality disorders. This result is consistent with previous findings on the MCMI's lack of diagnostic accuracy when compared to DSM-III-R diagnoses.

Issue in the assessment of personality disorder and substance abuse using the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI-II)

Article Abstract:

The Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-II (MCMI-II), which consists of 22 clinical scales, is widely used in assessing and screening psychological impairment and personality disorders in drug treatment patients. Clinicians often express concerns regarding the use of the MCMI-II as a diagnostic tool. Several such issues are examined, including perceived over-diagnosis problems, scale misinterpretations, and supposedly inaccurate diagnostic cutoffs.
