Influence of social support on adaptation to surgery

Article Abstract:

The effect of patients' social support on subjective and objective stress indicators before, during, and after surgery was examined in order to determine the influence of social support on adaptation to surgery. Results indicated that patients having high social support exhibited less anxiety and required lower doses of narcotics having a shorter stay in hospital as compared to patients with low support.

What works best: objective statistics or a personal testimonial? An assessment of the persuasive effects of different types of message evidence on risk perception

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of statistical and narrative evidence in promoting the use vaccination against hepatitis B virus (HBV) is investigated. Results showed that personal risk perception and intention to obtain vaccination were highest in participants who were given narrative evidence of HBV risk. The use of narrative evidence in promoting a sense of personal health risk is discussed.

Daily mood, partner support, sexual interest, and sexual activity among adolescent women

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine day-to-day association of coitus, sexual interest, partner emotional support, negative mood, and positive mood among adolescent women. The findings extend understanding of the sexuality of adolescent of adolescent women and have implications for a variety of interventions to reduce sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies.
