Intuitive theories of information: beliefs about the value of redundancy
Article Abstract:
The preference for redundant information by a person depends on that person's intuitive theory of information. The most widely held intuitive theory is the Error Tradeoff Model (ETM), which explicitly differentiates measurement error from bias. In ETM, bias can only be averaged out by consulting different sources, while measurement error can only be averaged out by consulting the same source multiple times. ETM, thus, leads people to prefer redundant estimates when the ration of measurement error to bias is relatively high.

Comparison, grouping, and preference
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the role of comparisons in the evaluation of options' attractiveness and the influence of grouping on choice. Two assumptions which imply that whenever the options under consideration have both meaningful advantages and disadvantages were examined. Results indicated a number of observations concerning the importance of grouping in choice. Findings also showed that a same set of options may produce systematically different choices under various groupings.
