Naylor made lasting contributions to the development of empirical research on basic psychological theories of organizational behavior and decision making through the 'Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes' journal. Through his stewardship as founder and editor from 1966 to 1998, the journal became an effective forum for theoretical research that provides an advanced understanding of task performance and workplace behavior. Naylor's foresight, leadership and scholarship made him see emerging trends in organizational behavior and foster their development.

Performance appraisal process research in the 1980s: what has it contributed to apraisals in use?
Article Abstract:
Empirical research concerning performance appraisal processes is reviewed and evaluated as to furthering appraisal system quality in organizations. Contributions to improving design of performance rating systems has been limited and further research on the process is unlikely to be productive. Further research would more fruitfully focus on the areas of the content of cognitive variables, organization factors that may influence the variables, and appraisal system design based on cognitive principles. Decision accuracy in computer-mediated versus face-to-face decision-making teams
Article Abstract:
Communication mode exert mixed effects on several team processes. Teams using face-to-face communication are more informed and create recommendations that are more predictive of the correct team decision than teams using computer-mediated communication. On the other hand, computer-mediated teams have greater ability to distinguish staff members on the quality of their decisions than face-to-face teams.
