Lemons on the web: a signaling approach to the problem of trust in Internet commerce

Article Abstract:

Retailers selling their products on web are faced with a problem of differentiating themselves from untrustworthy Web merchants. Three factors or signals affect the changes in purchasing behavior of the consumer. Consequently, it is concluded that ability, benevolence and integrity affect trust of the consumer and can be used as signals to prove trustworthiness of the retailer.
