Longitudinal improvements in communication and socialization of deaf children with cochlear implants and hearing aids: Evidence from parental reports

Article Abstract:

The development of communication, socialization and daily living skills of children who used hearing aids or cochlear implants is examined using a standardized psychological measure completed by parents and a longitudinal design. Oral language abilities of profoundly deaf children are significantly improved by the use of cochlear implants and hearing aids.

Theory-of-mind development in oral deaf children with cochlear implants or conventional hearing aids

Article Abstract:

Theory-of-mind (ToM) development amongst deaf children with cochlear implants was explored. Theory of the mind development was as delayed amongst deaf children with cochlear implants as it were in children using hearing aids, implying early fluent communication with peers and family, both in sign or in speech.

Visual attention in deaf and hearing infants: The role of auditory cues

Article Abstract:

The patterns of visual attention in deaf and hearing children were compared to determine how they are affected by the absence of auditory cues, especially when looking to the mother's face. Both spontaneous and elicited looks are likely to involve attention to the motherEs face.
