Marital and severe parent-to-adolescent physical aggression in clinic- referred families: mother and adolescent reports on co-occurrence and links to child behavior problems

Article Abstract:

Data on the co-occurrence of marital and parental physical aggression is presented, focusing on the effect of family violence on the adjustment and behavior problems of adolescents referred to mental health clinics. Findings suggest family therapists should consider severe family aggression when assessing the psychopathology of children.

Marital relationship and individual psychological characteristics that predict physical punishment of children

Article Abstract:

This article presents a longitudinal study of the relationship between marital conflict, individual adult hostility, and the use of physical discipline of children. Findings suggest that a negative family environment predicted the more frequent and severe use of physical punishment for children.
