Marital power, marital adjustment, and therapy outcome

Article Abstract:

Certain contrasting findings are indicated in the study concerning marital power and adjustment. Studies indicate that equal relationships represent a lack of structure, which lead to increased conflict in the process of decision making for problems or changes. However, it has also been argued that the lack of a power structure leads to higher flexibility and lower levels of conflict. The concepts of balanced and equal power are featured.

Cognitive accessibility and sentiment override - starting a revolution: comment on Fincham et al. (1995)

Article Abstract:

A study of several married couples indicates that not all distraught spouses show characteristics of sentiment override, suggesting that sentiment override cannot be characterized as a process wherein negative or positive feelings override the value of partner behavior. Accessibility among spouses leads to marital satisfaction and cognitive capacity of the couples plays an important in the extent of responses to each other.

A new look at sentiment override - let's not get carried away yet: comment on Fincham et al. (1995)

Article Abstract:

Reanalysis of an earlier proposed theory of sentiment override in marriages reveals that almost 98% of the couples studied report matrimonial satisfaction, despite problems in their marriage. Females give more importance to relationships than men, implying a better association between expectations and sentiments regarding their partners. The response of wives to their spouses is sensitive to marital expectations.
