Memories of NMDA receptors and LTP

Article Abstract:

Long-term potentiation (LTP) and its relationship with NMDA receptors may be the single most important discovery in neuroscience since the early 1970s. However, numerous studies since then have not shed light on the specific characteristics of this relationship despite advanced research techniques such as patch-clamp recording. The only facts that have been verified is that LTP exists and that the NMDA receptor is necessary for LTP distribution.

Opioid receptors: past, present and future

Article Abstract:

Opioid receptor research mirrors the developments in the field of neuroscience. The first use of binding assays to seek neurotransmitter receptors was accomplished for opioid receptors. The discovery of endorphins and its ligands revealed the complexity of the opioid system. Research confirmed the system's complexity when mapping studies revealed multiple opioids reacting with the same receptor and multiple receptors reacting to single opioids.

5-HT receptors: past, present and future

Article Abstract:

More than 16 types of 5-HT receptors have been discovered through molecular biological advances developed between the late 1980s and 1994. The great number of 5-HT receptors is theorized to be a direct result of over 750 million years of molecular evolution. Clinical research using 5-HT research ligands has also developed at an accelerated rate as a result of the research conducted on 5-HT receptors.
