Mortality and causes of death in eating disorders in Denmark 1970-1993: a case register study
Article Abstract:
The linking of the Danish Psychiatric Case Register, the Danish National Patient Register and the Register of Cause of Death has made it possible to produce detailed information about the mortality pattern in a Danish patient population with eating disorders. The study population was made up of 2,763 probands, of which 237 were males. Among the probands, 46% were index cases admitted to a psychiatric hospital, with 54% being index cases admitted to a somatic hospital. On completion of the study, 209 of the 2,312 females and 22 of the 237 males had died. The Death Cause Register identified 50 cases with no admission to a somatic or psychiatric department as having an eating disorder as the cause of death.

Stress, coping, and crisis support in eating disorders
Article Abstract:
Semistructured interviews were conducted to examine coping and crisis support among women whose stressful experiences contribute to their eating disorders. Findings revealed that cognitive avoidance and cognitive rumination are common among women with eating disorders. These women were less likely to downplay their problems than women without eating disorders. Women with bulimia nervosa were prone to blaming themselves and less likely to receive crisis support. In general, women with eating disorders were found to be less effective in their coping than counterparts without disorders.
