New reproductive technology and the family: the parent-child relationship following in vitro fertilization

Article Abstract:

The impact of in vitro fertilization (IVF) on parent-child relationships and the psychosocial functioning of parents is investigated by comparing families with a two- to two-and-a-half-year-old, single born child conceived through IVF to families with a naturally conceived offspring. The results do not show significant differences between the two groups. However, notable differences are found between working and non-working IVF mothers with regard to their attitudes towards their children.

Disorganised attachment behaviour among infants born subsequent to stillbirth

Article Abstract:

Being a sibling of a stillborn infant may be related to a higher risk factor for behavioral and psychological problems, and research presented concerns the causal relationship between disorganization of infant attachment and maternal psychology with regard to loss. Findings suggest that infants nex-born after a stillbirth show a greater increase in disorganized attachment behavior than the control.

The mother-child relationship following in vitro fertilisation (IVF): infant attachment, responsivity, and maternal sensitivity

Article Abstract:

This article investigates the effects of in vitro fertilisation on the quality of mother-child interaction and attachment behavior in the infant. Findings indicate that the majority of children conceived through in vitro fertilization demonstrated secure attachment and there were no significant differences in mother-child interaction or attachment when compared to controls.
