On the practical significance of hindsight bias: the case of the expectancy-disconfirmation model of consumer satisfaction

Article Abstract:

Hindsight bias or the 'I-knew-it-all-along' phenomenon is studied using the expectancy-disconfirmation model of consumer satisfaction. Results show that expected performance affects consumers' recall of their foresight expectations. Hindsight has a stronger impact on disconfirmation and satisfaction compared to foresight, while choice determines the degree of hindsight bias and satisfaction.

On bad decisions and deciding badly: when intention-behavior inconsistency is regrettable

A longitudinal study on the decision process of either deciding badly or taking bad decisions determining the intensity of regret is presented. Regret induced by intention-behavior inconsistency is explored in detail and a key finding is that regret is diminished provided the quality of decision process is judged to be high.
