Paul Hoch, 1902-1964
Article Abstract:
Paul Hoch, one of the most respected and honored psychiatrists of his generation, died from a heart attack in 1964 at the age of 62. Hoch was born in Hungary but finished his schooling at Gottingen University in Germany. Shortly after his arrival in the US in 1933, he was appointed director of the New York State Psychiatric Institute's Department of Experimental Psychiatry. He later became Commissioner of Mental Hygiene of New York State in 1955. Aside from pioneering research into new psychotropic agents, Hoch co-developed the concept of pseudo-neurotic schizophrenia.

Karl Jaspers
Article Abstract:
Karl Jaspers was a prominent psychopathologist whose works investigate the relationships between philosophy and psychiatry. He was born on Feb 23, 1883 in Oldenburg, West Germany and spent most of his career writing about the foundations of his revolutionary theories. Jaspers' principal work, 'General Psychopathology,' paved the way for an organized access to psychopathological phenomena vis-a-vis Cartesian mind-body and methodological dualism problems.

Seymour S. Kety, M.D., 1915-2000
Article Abstract:
Seymour S. Kety (1915-2000) was Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience in Harvard Medical School's Department of Psychiatry. He was the recipient of the 1999 Albert Lasker Special Achievement Award in Medical Science and was also the first Scientific Director of the National Institute of Mental Health.
