Perceptual organization masquerading as phonological storage: Further support for a perceptual-gestural view of short-term memory
Article Abstract:
Experiments examined whether the survival of the phonological similarity effects (PSE) under articulatory suppression for auditory but not visual to-be-serially recalled lists is a perceptual effect rather than an effect arising from the action of a bespoke phonological store. The results favor a perceptual-gestural view over a dedicated-system view of short-term memory.

Mixed-list phonological similarity effects in delayed serial recall
Article Abstract:
Evidence is presented against retrieval-based models by examining the effects of delaying recall on the mixed-list effect empirically and in encoding and retrieval-based models. The existence of a mixed-list phonological similarity advantage is confirmed in serial recall.

Phonological information contributes to short-term recall of auditorily presented sentences
Article Abstract:
Word-list position has been shown to influence recall after auditory sentence presentation, though this is not a factor in visual sentence presentation. Verbatim short-term recall of sentences appears to depend solely on lexical and conceptual information.
