Practitioner review: the assessment and management of risk in adolescents

Article Abstract:

There has been a shift in focus in forensic psychiatry toward risk as a factor that can be managed, and away from dangerousness. Predictions have come to be made on a continuum and on a day-to-day basis, rather than in terms of a long-term all-or-nothing view. Management plans can be developed to reduce risks, and management is a continuous process if small steps are used. Communication and record keeping are important and there should be responses to violent episodes that are reported.

Can autism be diagnosed accurately in children under 3 years?

Article Abstract:

A study was undertaken to investigate whether a clinical diagnosis of autism can be accurately made in children under the age of three. The results support previous conclusions that a clinical diagnosis can be accurately made. The most prevalent diagnostic factors were deficits in the user of nonverbal social-communicative behaviors, delayed acquisition of spoken language and lack of social or emotional reciprocity.
