Psychological factors and depressive symptoms in ischemic heart disease

Article Abstract:

This article investigates the psychological factors associated with depression in cardiac patients. Findings indicate that both cognitive distortions and dispositional optimism are associated with depression a month after hospitalization, but only optimism is predictive of depression a year later.

Motivation and dietary self-care in adults with diabetes: are self-efficacy and autonomous self-regulation complementary or competing constructs?

Article Abstract:

This articles examines the psychological factors involved with dietary management and self-care in diabetic patients. Results indicate that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy, independent self-regulation, dietary adherence, and overall satisfaction with life.

Relations of diabetes intrusiveness and personal control to symptoms of depression among adults with diabetes

Article Abstract:

Research shows diabetic complications increase illness intrusiveness, in turn reducing personal control and increasing the probability of mental depression. Implications for individuals with diabetes are discussed.
